 Direct admission in B.tech/M.tech

As their motto says: "A place to live, a chance to grow", one gets lot of opportunities whether it is academic or extra-curricular, to showcase their talents and to bring out the best in them. In all we feel that VIT is one of the fastest climbing colleges in India and is a very good option to consider if you are getting your branch of choice. We can almost guarantee that you are sure to enjoy the 4 years you spend here on campus

The college was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College and was conferred university status in 2001. The college is headed by Dr.G.Viswanathan, a former minister of Tamil Nadu government. Despite being a private college it is extremely popular and fast-growing, till 2013 VIT used to hold an independent entrance test VITEEE for undergraduate admission to their campuses in Vellore and Chennai.

Campus is more than 450 acres with Bangalore and Chennai being the closest metros. Therefore the college is strategically located in between the three of the biggest tech hubs of India.

Both AC and Non-AC hostel rooms are available for boarders. There are more than 13 hostel blocks for boys and 4 blocks for ladies. Free Wi-fi of 3 GB per month for every student (Yes you read it right). The library is centrally air conditioned and is 6 floors with more than 200,000 documents and 200,000 volumes of books and access to more than 10,000 e-journals and over 400 national and international print journals. Laboratories are state of the art with excellent machines and instruments, with the latest technology.

Tuition fess Rs 1,17,800 and including hostels it will come roughly around Rs 150,000 per annum. The cost of living is less because it is not a big city, anything around 3000-5000 INR will be sufficient for a month.

Almost all of the professors working have more than 7 years of teaching experience, and everyone has completed a Ph.D. or is pursuing one currently.

Students from more than 35 countries attend VIT. The university has also signed MoUs with more than 80 universities across the globe facilitating faculty as well as student exchanges for research and projects. The boy to girl ratio being 1:3. Campus life is vibrant with a range of opportunities for the students to participate in a variety of activities. The college is very strict about anti-ragging policies.

It ranks among the Top 10 in the country according to the India Today rankings of professional colleges of 2013 and otherwise it is consistently in the top 20 across India. Any rank in between 1-7000 in VITEEE will fetch you a decent branch of study here. Once fixed, the branch cannot be changed after the first year.

Everyone in VIT gets one job for sure and there are more than a hundred students with 4 offers. Shocking, isn’t it? Average Package varies from branch-to-branch: Computer Science is roughly 5.9 lakhs; Mechanical is around 4.1 lakhs; Overall average will be around 3.7 lakhs per year. Companies include amazon, D.E.Shaw, Microsoft, Intel, Tata Motors, ITC, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Ericsson, Bank of America, Ernst and Young, Applied Materials, National Instruments, Texas Instruments, Accenture, CTS, Wipro, IBM, Flipkart and eBay, to name a few.

Riviera, the cultural festival in February is one of the largest in India, featuring artists like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Motherjane to name a few. Riviera as mentioned earlier is the cultural festival with price money of more than Rs.2 million.

Gravitas, the technical festival has price money of more than 10 lakhs at stake in various events.

Canteen/Mess/Hangouts:

Food courts near TT and Le Cafe in SJT gives you wide variety of choices from Indian delicacies to Continental and Chinese cuisine. There are Nescafe's all around the campus for some hot puffs and coffee during the breaks between the classes. The hostel mess provides students with nutritional and hygienic food. The students also have the choice of selecting vegetarian or non-vegetarian and also between North Indian, South Indian and a special mess (which is continental).

Vellore is famous for its forts and temples. Unfortunately there aren’t enough options to hang out in Vellore, although Bangalore and Chennai, which are nearby are good options for the junta adventurous enough to travel.
